Team Low-Cost Teaching Aids Bags $1000 USD in HACK-ED 2020

HACK-ED 2020 (Hack for Education) is a three-day online hackathon with a mission to change the way we teach and learn and rethink education. This hackathon brought together experts to create and build products that can create real impact by bringing ideas to working solutions. The event took place from 26th June to 28th June 2020.

The three day Hackathon hosted by Mr. Sanjay Gupta saw participation from 11 teams with brilliant ideas to overcome the hurdles in education today.

Honorable Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Giriraj Mani Pokharel graced his presence in the final day of Hack-Ed where the contestants pitched their ideas in front of the judges and online audience.

The ideas were presented to a panel of esteemed figures from the education sector- Kanhaiya Jha ( Dean of School of Science, K.U), Timila Yami( Former Professor at IOE and Founder of DesignCo Nepal), Shishir Khanal (Co-Founder of Teach For Nepal) and Josue Rivera Olds (Innovation Hub Kathmandu).

Among the 70+ teams registered, 11 great ideas made it to the finale, and one idea from Team “Low-Cost Teaching Aids” won the confidence of the judges. Their idea of developing a portal that will enable students to learn different subjects practically using low-cost materials bagged the cash prize of USD 1000.

The winning team members comprised of Kumod Kumar Sah, Nanshu Pokharel, Sita Thapa, Niraj Mishra, and Santosh Prasad Sah. The application was designed based on their 2 years of teaching experience in the remote areas of Nepal.
